Art Preview: Simon Terrill, The Balfron Project

A mural-sized photograph depicting Poplar's Balfron Tower and its residents goes on show at The Nunnery tomorrow night.

Artist Simon Terrill spent an hour behind a large format film camera in November 2010, taking 10 photographs of the Ernő Goldfinger edifice. Residents were invited to participate in the picture, posing on balconies and engaging in impromptu performances on the grounds outside the tower, which was lit up by film lights.

The resultant single, mural-sized photograph will be on display beside related works and documentary footage from tomorrow.

The exhibition opens on Thursday 6th January, 2011 at the Nunnery, 183 Bow Road, E3 2SJ from 6.30-9pm. It runs from 7th until 23rd January, opening hours: Friday – Sunday from 1pm to 5pm. Free entry.
