Tacita Dean, Palast, 2004
Young British Art alumnus Tacita Dean has been named as the next artist to fill the Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall, in the gallery’s annual Unilever Series.
The one-time Turner prize nominee is best known for her 16mm films, and her work is usually shown in small, intimate spaces, where the often fragile beauty of her subjects can be appreciated at close hand. It’ll be interesting to see how she fills the Turbine Hall’s cavernous space, though the idea of turning her diminutive projectors onto the vast industrial walls is an intriguing one.
Tacita Dean’s installation will be unveiled on October 11th 2011. The current exhibition, Sunflower Seeds by Ai Weiwei, runs until May 2nd 2011, and unfortunately for visitors, there seems no prospect of the gallery going back on their decision to prevent people walking on the hundreds of millions of porcelain seeds.
