Ken Vows To Re-Start Cross-River Tram

0209_crt.jpg With voting underway for the Labour mayoral candidacy, Ken Livingstone has brought out the big guns: he’s promised to revive Cross River Tram. The project, introduced in 2005, would have brought trams back to central London via a route that linked Peckham and Brixton in the south with Camden in the north via Elephant & Castle, Waterloo Bridge, and Euston. It was axed early in Boris Johnson’s reign, but according to SE1, Ken has vowed that, as Mayor, CRT and a host of other stalled transport projects would go ahead “when economic conditions improve”. Ah. That’s some caveat. Still, banging on about trams wlll probably unsettle Boris — he’s already riled by the prospect of a Labour campaign that focuses on transport.

Well, they’ve already saved money on the logo. Looks like it was knocked together in Microsoft Paint by someone who’d watched too much A Question of Sport.

I’m all for cross-river transport but couldn’t they plot a route that isn’t already well serviced by the bloody Northern Line?!

It does encompass Brixton, Peckham, Holborn, and Stockwell, none of which are on the Northern line.

Also, the Northern line is horribly overcrowded at peak times; anything that alleviates the crush is to be welcomed.

That would be great for people like me who lives in Peckham and saying that, it would be a great start against polution and bad traffic. He will get my vote he same way I voted yes for the tram at the time of presentation.
