Cabe Calls For More Design Work On Olympic Tower

1208_orbit.jpg Design bloodhound, the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment, has stated that it cannot endorse the ArcelorMittal Orbit tower without further work on the proposals. Cabe's problem? It's all in the details. Their report says further attention needs to be paid to boring but vital elements like the sewage pipes, elevators, entrance pavilion, and the viewing decks. There is also concern that the nearby Olympic Cauldron, with a height of perhaps 150m, will dwarf the 114m-tall Orbit. Could Kapoor and engineering firm Arup discover too late that what looks great in CAD doesn't shine so well when the pressing concerns of reality come in to play? The Olympic Delivery Authority will make a final decision on the tower's planning application in late August.
