Londonist's numbers in pictures...

6 breakdowns on Eurostar by our count, the most recent a flashback to the December chaos

12.50 GBP to see the Henry Moore sculptures at Tate Britain - or £0.00 to enjoy them around London on our mapped Moore

2,000 GBP raised by our daring team Londonist for Shelter in their climb up Tower 42: WELL DONE!

6 pence or the wooden horse should ye be caught with your hat on in London's oddest toilet

6 X 12.5 + 2,000 X 6 = 12,450 which turns out to be a romantic bit of graffiti in the Londonist Flickr pool as snapped by Mulia.

This Week In London’s History

  • Monday - 1st March 1826: Chunee, a tame elephant at Cross's Menagerie on the Strand, is executed in a barbaric manner.
  • Tuesday - 2nd March 1717: The Theatre Royal Drury Lane hosts The Loves of Mars and Venus, the first ballet to be staged in Britain. Wednesday - 3rd March 1982: The Barbican Centre is opened by the Queen. After 15 years of construction, at a cost of £161 million, the centre would become the largest performing arts centre in Europe (as well as being voted the ugliest building in London). Thursday - 4th March 1882: Britain’s first electric trams go into operation in Leytonstone, East London. Friday - 5th March 1856: The second Covent Garden Theatre is destroyed by a fire that breaks out at 5am, during a masked ball. Its replacement would become known as the Royal Opera House.

Random London Quote Of The Week

London doesn't love the latent or the lurking, has neither time, nor taste, nor sense for anything less discernible than the red flag in front of the steam-roller. It wants cash over the counter and letters ten feet high.
