Welcome to Dining Beyond Zone 1, our series of restaurant reviews dedicated to seeking out quality local places to dine beyond the frenzy of Central London!

Always keen to keep our readers posted on decent eats situated well beyond the shadow of Lord Nelson's Column, we replied with an anticipant 'yes' when invited down to Streatham to give Chilli Chutney's Lahori menu a thorough tasting.

A short walk from either Streatham Station or Streatham Hill Station, Chilli Chutney is a comfy resto with a lot of personable character. The food's good too! Londonist sampled a number of dishes and especially liked the juicy Goley kebabs (minced lamb mixed with “chef's secret recipe” and barbequed in clay oven - £4.95) and the Tarka daal (yellow lentils finished with browned garlic, onion and oil garnish - £5.20). A refreshing and filling mango lassi (£1.95), and some freshly baked breads pleased us as well. CC's Roghni naan (made from egg and yogurt-based dough, sprinkled with sesame seed and brushed with butter - £2.75) was mouthwateringly noteworthy.

Why should Fieldgate Street's much lauded New Tayyabs and Lahore restaurants receive all the accolades for presenting Pakistani cuisine to the London masses? Our visit to Chilli Chutney left us wondering if the best of London's South Asian dining might be found south of the river!

Chilli Chutney is located at 20-21 The High Parade, Streatham High Road in Streatham (SW16 1EX). Visit the restaurant online at www.chillichutney.com.
