Spend More Spare Change On TfL's Changed Number

phoneboxes_30Nov09.jpg The Standard brings us news that TfL are planning to change the number you call for travel information. Whoop-de-doo, you might think, but the move from the current 020 7222 1234 number to an 0843 number will cost up to 40p a minute from pay as you go phones. Ouch. TfL says it's changing the number so they can create an automated service (which we're sure would cost a bit more in the short term, but presumably will ultimately save them money on staffing?). We know TfL have a monetary black hole, but isn't making money from confused travellers (and buskers) a bit below the belt? (Image / Michael Wailes)
