In our long, boozy travels, we've never seen anything quite like the Talbot. Spartan white, both inside and out (and online), it feels like you're drinking in some kind of minimalist art gallery or perhaps a post-reformation church (complete with crucifix-backed seats). Were this place in, say, Knightsbridge, it would be a temple of upper-middle class gastronomy, grasping for Michelin stars and discouraging the casual drinker. Yet there's nothing of pretence or positioning about The T, it's a simple, friendly boozer and all the better for it. Alongside a fairly standard range of lagers you'll find three or four real ales, including (on our visit) a couple from nearby Brockley Brewery, whose IPA is particularly noteworthy. We didn't try the food, but they appear to have all bases covered, with particularly good veggie options.
Look out, too, for the library-in-a-phone-box, just round the corner on Lewisham Way.
On Facebook. Quiz night is Tuesday.
