One of the many excellent pubs tucked away in the Knightsbridge side streets. Formerly a Shepherd Neame house, this place is now owned by the Indapubs group (see also The Larrik and The Chamberlayne). It's smartened up, too. Gone are the hanging baskets and deep blue paint job, to something more in line with the area's stucco beige.
In any incarnation, the Wilton pulls in a fine clientele. We once spotted Tom Jones in here ("it's not unusual," quipped a friend), and the pub also claims Priscilla Presley and Robert Mitchum among its more famous clientele. On our most recent visit, half the customers were wearing very expensive-looking suits. Yet it still feels relaxed and even homely (especially if you're lucky enough to visit the upstairs panelled dining room).
Like all the pubs in this area, it can get rather busy in the evening, but is a sleepy joy during a weekday afternoon. It might not have as much eccentric charm as its near neighbour The Nag's Head, but you'll find more space here, including a pleasant little conservatory for dining out back.
