Part of our Best Pubs in London microsite. See if we've included your local.
Yet more impressive Victoriana, in an area dripping with great 19th century pubs, greets the visitor to The Lamb. The effect is similar to the nearby Princess Louise, but perhaps with less of a flourish. The Lamb is a Young's pub, dressed as a Sam Smith's pub.

All pub guides will mention the ‘snob screens’, and who are we to differ? These are the small glass panels at head height, which can be tilted to save you having to look at the bar staff (and vice-versa).

It can be hard to find space in here, but something usually turns up if you hover. There’s a tiny beer garden out back and an almost-charming function room upstairs, known as the Empire Room.
A neat touch on our last visit: this upturned keg supplying liquid refreshment to Bloomsbury's four-legged denizens.
