Duke's Head

Duke's Head

This pub was editorially chosen by Londonist for inclusion.

The Duke's Head presents an understated face to the world, its dark brown exterior blending in with surroundings towards the top of one of London's biggest hills. Inside, the decor is also muted, with dim lighting, flagstone paving and plain walls. The flamboyance here is provided by the ales —Highgate's best selection, with 10 cask lines, 10 keg lines, and a range of bottles and cans. House breweries include Hammerton, The Kernel, Beavertown, Cotswold, Freedom and Orchard Pig, with many others coming and going. So many beers to explore, in fact, that you'll be plotting your return before you even sit down. Meanwhile, Highgate's own Sacred Distillery provides the vodka and gin. Food is handled by kitchen residency — at the time of writing, El Patron is providing superior Mexican, with Devonshire crab specialist Claw waiting in the wings (check out upcoming food residencies here).

A smart, ale-focussed makeover for this former Irish pub.
