Nope, this is not an April Fool's.

Today (1 April) the public toilets at Liverpool Street And King's Cross scrap their fees, meaning it's now free to use the conveniences at all major London train stations.

The news will be a, er, relief, to the 67 million (Liverpool Street) and 34 million (King's Cross) passengers who use the stations each year. Particularly in an increasingly contactless world, fumbling around for toilet shrapnel has become an uncomfortable nuisance.

Andrew Haines, chief executive, said: "Passengers have told us that toilets are an important issue for them and taking this step is just one, of a number of small measures we are taking, to put our passengers first by helping to make their journeys a bit more hassle-free."

Edinburgh Waverley is another station to benefit from free toilets as of today. The toilets at London Waterloo went free in March 2019, and Paddington scrapped the 30p cost in January 2019.

Network Rail has previously reported annual profits of almost £5m from its toilets.
