TfL is taking sightseeing to new heights, by launching cable car cabins with clear glass floors.
Two of the dangling gondolas running between North Greenwich and the Royal Docks have been fitted with the transparent floors, and visitors are able to ride them by booking a new Glass Floor Experience. It's a round-trip, starting and ending at the Greenwich Peninsula terminal.
As well as looking at the skyline views, you can now look straight down into the murky water below, watching riverboats pootling along directly beneath you. Londonist had a preview ride, and while the middle section of the crossing over the river itself might not have as much to look at directly below as, say, a cable car down Oxford Street would, we got a bird's eye view of people enjoying the sunshine in the parkland around City Hall, and swimmers enjoying watersports in the docks while passing over that stretch.

It's not as scary as you might think. Unlike other glass-floor experiences, this one begins almost at ground level, taking you slowly higher as the ride goes on, rather than exposing you to an extreme height at once. That said, anyone who doesn't like heights will be a little more nervous than in a regular cabin.

In addition to the glass flooring, the two special cabins have less advertising wrap than the others, meaning better, lesser obstructed views at eye level, even for those not brave enough to look down.
The Glass Floor Experience is available to book now, and opens on Monday 23 June. It's pricier than a regular cable car trip, with tickets at £35 per adult/£17.50 per child during peak time (weekends and school holidays), or £25 per adult/£12.50 per child off peak. You can use the code 'GFE20' when booking online to get 20% off Glass Floor Experience tickets from 23 June-31 August (inclusive).
