Tube ponderings with Barry Heck

Our resident tube fancier dishes out daily thoughts on the London Underground.

High Barnet tube station, the northern-most tip of the Northern line. Visit at the moment, though, and you can inch your way even further to the north. The footbridge is closed until mid-August, which means that those using platforms 2 and 3 must take a circuitous route around the buffers (a path that's always open for those with accessibility needs, but not otherwise well used). I appreciate this is a very niche 'thing to do', but it rather tickled your correspondent. Follow Barry on Twitter @HeckTube.

Good cause of the day

Head to Love Shack in Cambridge Heath tonight for a screening of documentary Running For Good, raising money for Tower Hill Stables Animal Sanctuary. The film follows world record marathon runner Fiona Oakes in her attempt to set a new global record in endurance racing. Find out more and book tickets.
