Things to do:

SUNRISE YOGA: If we're going to be pedantic about it, you'll be too late to catch the sunrise at this early morning yoga class. But who cares when your surroundings are as stunning as The Charterhouse? Your session begins with a brief history lesson on the building's transformation from medieval monastery to Tudor mansion and ends with a goody bag with treats from Rude Health and Deliciously Ella. The Charterhouse (Barbican), £20, book ahead, 7.15am-8.30am

BABBLE TALKS: Got a case of baby brain? Press pause on Peppa Pig and take your tot to a baby-friendly TED-style talk for those with kids under the age of one. This time, author and new dad Leo Barasi explains what climate change means for us and our children, and what it might take for the world to start taking it seriously. East Dulwich Tavern, £7.50-£10, book ahead, 11.30am

DOGGETT'S COAT AND BADGE RACE: Watch six single sculls battle it out in the world's oldest boat race. The annual Race for Doggett’s Coat and Badge has been taking place on Thames for over 300 years — you can find out more about it at this free exhibition. Starts at London Bridge, free to watch, just turn up, 4pm

DAUGHTERS OF THE DUST: Watch Julie Dash's 1991 cult film Daughters of the Dust, about three generations of African American Gullah women who live in isolation off the coast of South Carolina. If any of it looks familiar, it's probably because it was a major aesthetic inspiration for Beyonce's seminal visual album Lemonade. Rich Mix (Shoreditch), £10.95, book ahead, 6.15pm

ARCHITECTURE AND APSLEY HOUSE: Learn all about pioneering Georgian architect Robert Adam, known for his influential neoclassical buildings, amongst the interiors he designed at Apsley House. Plus, peek at one of the most important surviving elements of his career: the Adam Drawings Collection. Apsley House (Piccadilly), £15, book ahead, 6.30pm

Londonist beer is coming...

... And you're invited to our launch party. It's no secret that we're massive fans of craft beer here at Londonist. That's why we've teamed up with one of our favourite local breweries, Fourpure, to create our own deliciously hoppy tribute to London — and we want you to be one of the first to sample it. So head down to Fourpure Brewery on Sunday 16 September for our launch party. There will be live music, prizes to be won, and the chance to get to know some of the faces behind the bylines. Intrigued? Find out more here, or book your tickets.

COLE PORTER NIGHT: Anything goes at this one-man Cole Porter tribute night. Pianist, singer and cabaret artiste Michael Griffiths belts out the Broadway legend's most loved hits, from Let's Do It to Night and Day. Brasserie Zédel (Soho), £19.50, book ahead, 7pm, repeated tomorrow

PLAY: Belgian choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Indian-born dancer Shantala Shivalingappa present a cross-cultural dance collaboration that's a lesson in celebrating difference. See the cult classic that inspired Beyonce's Lemonade.

LONDON BRIDGE LORE: From poltergeists to phantom Robin Reliants, there are plenty of ghostly goings-on in SE1. Hear about those and other urban legends at London Fortean Society's meet up. If you prefer cold hard facts, you'll also hear the true tale of the US oil tycoon who bought London Bridge. The Miller (Borough), £5, book ahead, 8pm-10.30pm

GRACE JONES: Dive into the fascinating world of Grace Jones as part of Afropunk's Brixton takeover. Sophie Fiennes' documentary Grace Jones: Bloodlight and Bami explores the life and art of a pop culture phenomenon that has spawned countless imitators (looking at you, Lady Gaga). Ritzy Cinema (Brixton), £13.70, book ahead, 8.30pm

Good cause of the day

While actual felines are unfortunately not invited to this cat party, at least you'll be able to bring them home a present. Head to Stour Space and make your own kitty toys to take home while sipping beer and feasting on vegan grub. All the money raised will go to the Celia Hammond Animal Trust.
