Tuck into a special Chelsea Flower Show afternoon tea

Things to do

AFTERNOON TEA: To coincide with Chelsea Flower Show, Brigit's Bakery launches a limited edition roving floral afternoon tea. Board a specially kitted out double decker bus and tuck into finger sandwiches, cakes and edible flowers as the sights of London whizz past the window. Find out about other new afternoon teas launching in London this month. Victoria Coach Station, £55, book ahead, 21-25 May

SUBTERRANEAN LONDON: Aimed primarily at parent and carers with babies in tow, Babble Talks are a series of lectures — but not about parenting. Today, Museum of London archaeologist and part-time comedian Paul Duncan McGarrity talks about the layers of London's past that lie beneath our feet. Crouch End Picturehouse, £10, book ahead, 11.30am-12.30pm

EARTH FROM SPACE: While some space programmes are off exploring other planets, others are teaching us more about our own. Find out what we've learned about Earth by looking at it from space, in this Gresham College lecture by Professor Jacqueline McGlade. Museum of London, free, just turn up, 6pm-7pm

WORLD BEE DAY: It's World Bee Day. Head to this joint event between Conway Hall, the Embassy of Slovenia and Bee Midtown to celebrate. 30 hives from around the world are on display, along with honey, pollen, royal jelly and wax produced from each one, to highlight how they all differ, and the importance of maintaining diversity in bee populations. Conway Hall (Holborn), free, book ahead, 6.30pm-8.30pm

CRIME OF THE CENTURY: Words, movement, hip hop and dance music combine in theatre show Crime of the Century, which looks at gang violence. The hard-hitting show explores the issues behind and reasons for gang violence, and aims to fight against knife crime. Rayne Theatre (Cockfosters), £8/£5, book ahead, 7pm (until 25 May)

BE MORE MARTYN: Social media star Martyn Hett — known for his love of Coronation Street and Eurovision, among others — died in the 2017 Manchester Arena bombings, triggering the hashtag #BeMoreMartyn. This theatre show of the same name was created by his family and close friends to give an insight into his life, and his hilarious take on pop culture. Pleasance Theatre (Islington), £16/£14, book ahead, 7pm (until 25 May)

WOMEN OF WESTMINSTER: Attend the launch of new book Women of Westminster: The MPs Who Changed Politics, written by MP Rachel Reeves. Bush House (Aldwych), free, book ahead, 7.15pm-9.45pm

STORY SLAM: Got a story about your mum, a mother figure, or motherhood in general? Take to the stage to share it at The Moth StorySlam, a monthly storytelling event where the theme is Mama Rules this time around. Not a storyteller yourself?
