Best. News. Ever. A slide is being installed at the Tower of London this summer ā€” and you can slide right down it into the flower-filled moat below.

It's part of Superbloom, a wildflower meadow being grown at the Tower of London to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

The stainless steel slide has four lanes, with mats available for people to travel down it into the moat ā€” though access to the moat will still be available via other (more conventional) routes.

The slide has been recycled from its previous home at Cliveden House in Buckinghamshire, where it was installed in 2013, before being moved to a longer-term location on the estate. Fortunately, it was the right size for the Tower of London, allowing Historic Royal Palaces to use it.

Tom O'Leary, Director of Public Engagement at Historic Royal Palaces, said:

We want to give visitors to Superbloom the chance to arrive in the flowers with a sense of occasion and fun ā€” and what better way to do that than entering the Tower of Londonā€™s moat via a huge slide?

Sustainability is a key part of the Superbloom project, which is the first stage of transforming the moat into a natural landscape, as overseen by the City of London.

The process of sowing 20 million seeds into the moat for Superbloom is under way, though the slide won't be installed until later in the year.

Superbloom is at the Tower of London 1 June-18 September 2022. Tickets need to be booked in advance.
