Have The Time Of Your Life: Secret Cinema's Next Theme Is Dirty Dancing

Better start practising 'the lift' — Secret Cinema is recreating 1987 film Dirty Dancing for its summer 2020 show.

The immersive film screening company transports cinema goers to the summer of 1963 at the Kellerman's holiday camp, where Patrick Swayze's Johnny Castle met Jennifer Grey's Baby Houseman.

The event takes place as a 'sprawling outdoor location' somewhere in London (no word yet on whether there's a lake...), with live music, dance classes and various activities to create holiday camp feel.

Long-term Secret Cinema fans will know it's not the first time the company's tackled Dirty Dancing. Back in summer 2016, 30,000 people attended the production here in London, which received mixed reviews: The Hollywood News had it down as "Possibly one of the best movie experiences we’ve ever sampled", while The Guardian described it as "the UK's biggest hen party". Make of that what you will.

As is the way with Secret Cinema, little more has been revealed about the new production at this stage, but we're hoping for the usual blend of attention to detail, extreme immersion... and plenty of dancing.

Secret Cinema Presents Dirty Dancing opens on 22 July 2020 for a two-week run at a secret outdoor location in London. Tickets start at £49, and go on sale at 9am on Monday 16 December.
