Dido's Bar is a theatre and music production created by award-winning arts organisation, Dash Arts, and co-produced with the Royal Docks team. It's a modern retelling of Virgil's Aeneid, a Latin epic poem chronicling the story of Aeneas, a Trojan who fled to Italy at the fall of Troy. This production has the same themes of migration, love and assimilation, told through the eyes of modern-day refugees, and accompanied by music from world-class artists.
Director Josephine Burton was inspired by her encounter with Kurdish Iranian refugee — and now Finnish resident — composer Marouf Majidi, whose music features in the show.
Not only is this the debut of Dido's Bar, before it moves on to other cities around the UK, but it's also your chance to be the first to see a show inside a brand new venue, The Factory.
The 100,000ft² site has transformed a series of vacant buildings in London's docks into a brand new cultural centre, and Dido's Bar is the first show to be staged there. The Royal Docks Team has ambitions for the area to become one of the world’s great creation centres, and The Factory is just one of the new creative hubs, offering space and support for creatives to work. The development also includes workspaces and a cafe, and has been used by various TV and film productions in recent months.
