Here's a treat for David Attenborough fans (and really, isn't that everyone?): A live concert screening of his recent deep-sea documentary, Ocean With David Attenborough.
Released in May 2025, the feature documentary showcases how our oceans are vital to life on earth, and how their health is intrinsically linked to the health of our planet as a whole. In typical Attenborough style, it features some stunning shots of coral reefs, kelp forests, and the open sea, balancing beauty with a reality check about the threats faced, all narrated in a voiceover by Attenborough himself.
For one night only in February 2026, the film will be shown in concert at Royal Festival Hall. It will be accompanied by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, who'll perform the original score (by award-winning composer Steven Price) live, joined by a vocal ensemble.
To make things even more special, 2026 is Attenborough's centenary year. The national treasure celebrates his 100th birthday in May 2026, and acknowledges that he has lived through a golden age of ocean discovery. He said:
After almost 100 years on the planet, I now understand the most important place on Earth is not on land, but at sea.
The film's co-director Toby Nowlan said of the production:
This is not about seeing brand new natural history behaviours. It is the greatest message he’s ever told.
Ocean in Concert narrated on film by David Attenborough takes place at Royal Festival Hall on Saturday 28 February 2026 (with further events in Bristol, Birmingham and Edinburgh on other dates). Tickets are available from 3 October.
