A Spice Girls Exhibition Is Opening In London This Weekend

Calling all Spice Girls fans! You're going to Wannabe in north London this weekend, as an exhibition of Spice Girls memorabilia arrives in town. It may be 18 years since their last album was released, but Never Give Up On A Good Thing, eh?

Costumes from the quintet's heyday will be on display at SpiceUp London, with a stage dedicated to each of their costumes — although it looks as if we'll be seeing more of their solo career costumes than the iconic clothes they wore as a band. The image below shows the 'Posh' stage, which organisers claim is "cram packed with iconic costumes from Victoria Beckham's solo music career." Cram packed? We think not.

Other merchandise and memorabilia will also be on display. With two days until the opening, details aren't forthcoming, but a glance at the exhibition's official Facebook page suggests we could be treated to a glimpse of Spice Girls lollipops.  As Posh Spice said in Spice World: The Movie (yeah, 21 years later, we can still quote it — what of it?), "hold onto your knickers, girls".

That said, it's bold of the organisers to hail it as "THE BIGGEST MUSIC EXHIBITION EVER!" when there's a corker of a Michael Jackson exhibition going on just a few miles away.

The Spice Bus will be on display too (yep, the bus used in the most iconic film scene ever recorded in London — don't @ us), having been dragged out of a peaceful retirement on the Isle of Wight, and restored for the occasion.

Various other Spice Girls events are going on around London, for those who wish the band would Viva Forever. The Hilton hotel next to the exhibition is offering a Spice Girls afternoon tea, with a cake designed for each member of the band. Disco night Club de Fromage has a Spice Up London special on Saturday 28 July.  For an extra £25, you can take a two-hour Spice Girls bus tour around London — although it won't be on *that* bus — complete with sing alongs and Spice Girls history facts.

Oh, and if, like us, this has got you Googling your old Spice Girls merch, you may be HORRIFIED to learn that the Spice Girls Impulse spray that almost every girl in the country got for Christmas circa 1997 is now going for upwards of thirty quid on eBay. THIRTY QUID. Too Much.

SpiceUp London takes place at the Business Design Centre in Islington, 28 July-20 August 2018, before moving on to Manchester. Tickets start at £10 for adults — you'll need to Say You'll Be There (booking required). Ok, we'll Stop with the song puns now.
