This merrie olde medieval-style pub is really an Edwardian confection, dating from 1904. The place seems to be made entirely of window, gable and mock-tudory flourish, and it would be a strong-willed drinker indeed who could walk past without popping into the Fox for a crafty one.

And so we did. The interior is also rather pleasant, though a recent refit lends a more modern vibe. The beer selection is nothing particularly special, with two cask lines and the familiar kegs, such as Beavertown.

This was once a well-known and important pub. Historic, too, dating back in a previous incarnation to at least the 17th century. It stood at the terminus of horse-drawn bus routes, and later did the same for trams. In recognition of this, and its frankly delightful landmark appearance, the pub was declared an Asset of Community Value in 2015. It continues to entertain the local community, with regular comedy nights, music and sport screenings.
