If you don't consider football to be high culture, think on.
Later this month, a production of Shakespeare's Hamlet comes to Dulwich Hamlet FC. The production on Thursday 24 April 2025 — a one-off rendition at the south London Isthmian Premier League football club — is by Actors From The London Stage, an American-based company part-founded by Sir Patrick Stewart in 1975.
The troupe are fresh from a 10-week tour of the US, so their skull-handling skills are expected to be in fine fettle. In customarily droll fashion, Dulwich Hamlet FC (renowned for their fervent supporters but currently hovering just above the relegation zone) say: "Encompassing both profound beauty and fathomless despair, Shakespeare's world-famous tragic play will evoke emotions familiar to anyone who supports Dulwich Hamlet FC."
In case you're wondering if the performance is to be/not to be played out on the pitch, it'll actually be staged indoors, at the club's newly-refurbished upstairs space.
