A fantastical forest and an Elvis on the toilet feature as part of Liberty Festival, a celebration of disabled artistry coming to south London this September.
Running as part of Wandsworth's stint as Borough of Culture, Liberty takes place between Wednesday 24-Sunday 28 September 2025, bringing a cavalcade of free shows, workshops and performances at venues including Battersea Arts Centre and the Clapham Grand.
Here are a few highlights:
🎉 Opening party: Things get under way with a scaled down version of Midgitte Bardot's 'Personal Spot', bristling with live art, dance, drag, comedy and radical hoo-ha. There's also soulful blues and hard-hitting hip-hop from mental health charity Sound Minds. 24 Sept, Clapham Grand
🍔 Elvis Died of Burgers: Four neurodiverse artists make up Wandworth's BLINK Dance Theatre, and in the hour-long Elvis Died of Burgers, they explore the thin line between the hilarity and tragedy of overeating, via a non-linear narrative and semi-improv. 25 Sept, Battersea Arts Centre
🌳 Capturing the Forest: A forest grows in Battersea Arts Centre — constructed from sculpture, ceramics, sound, film and movement. The walk-through installation is by UK artist Kristina Veasey and Alejandro Ahmed from Brazil. 25-28 Sept, Battersea Arts Centre
❤️ The Love In: Come as you are, and share with Amanda Grace what's in your heart, at these one-on-one sessions taking place throughout the day on the Friday and Saturday. You'll leave with a personal love letter composed by 'The Lover'. 26-27 Sept, Battersea Arts Centre
🍽️ Sunday Picnic in the Park: The festival is rounded off with an outdoor picnic, featuring music from poet and songwriter Miss Jacqui. 28 Sept, Battersea Park Bowling Green
Wandsworth is London Borough of Culture until March 2026, with Haringey then picking up the baton into 2027.
