Oxford Street's famous Christmas lights will be switched on, on Monday 2 November.
This year, the 27 LED light curtains which run the length of the shopping street — and debuted last Christmas — will display a 'heartwarming poem', according to Oxford Street's PR team. The poem will celebrate London itself, as well as people across the country who've shown 'incredible acts of care, kindness and support ' this year.
Owing to the ongoing pandemic, there'll be no official switch-on. The lights are being turned on earlier than usual, to give visitors more time and space to enjoy them.
Among festive attractions already open on the street is Selfridges' Christmas shop; the posh department store has worked in partnership with Oxford Street on this year's lights.
We reported a while back that Oxford Street's Christmas lights would take on a Crossrail theme, but as that project continues to run behind schedule (no thanks to a certain pandemic), we reckon it'll be another year or three before they get an airing.
