The Euro 2020 football tournament — at which Wembley is due to host both semi-finals and the final — could be postponed until next year, amid coronavirus fears.

UEFA, which is behind the competition has announced that it will hold video conference discussions on 17 March, to determine whether the tournament should be delayed. The option of pushing it back to 2021 is on the table. Coronavirus has played havoc across the footballing world, with a number of the biggest European leagues being suspended, or played behind closed doors. The fact that tournaments, such as the Champions League, may be pushed back, will directly affect Euro 2020.

Euro 2020 is currently set to take place on 12 June-12 July. Wembley Stadium in north London is due to host seven matches in all: three group matches; one last-16 game; both semi-finals and the final.

Meanwhile, the Premier League has announced that the competition will be postponed until at least 3 April, owing to the spread of the disease, and the fact that some players and staff have tested positive for the Covid-19 virus. In London on Sunday, West Ham were set to play Wolves, while Tottenham Hotspur were supposed to be at home to Man United.
