Cue the sultry sax solo: Ronnie Scott's has just released mock-ups of its new first floor space — and it looks sizzling.
The world-renowned Soho jazz club — which has hosted everyone from Ella Fitzgerald to Amy Winehouse — closed its upstairs space in summer 2024, for extensive refurbishment. Now, we can get a first glimpse at the new Upstairs at Ronnie's, as reimagined by Archer Humphryes Architects: it features a plush yet intimate auditorium with a geometrically ornamented, art deco-style ceiling, and an adjoining bar featuring a miniature rendition of the auditorium ceiling, more of the same luscious low-lighting — and green velvet banquettes.
The space will be served by a new kitchen, overseen by newly-appointed executive chef, Steven Connolly.
Reopening in February 2026, Upstairs at Ronnie's programme will start with a Piano Trio Series spotlighting some of the leading lights of UK jazz including Ashley Henry and Reuben James; as well as the first ever Ronnie Scott's Classical Series featuring the Ronnie Scott’s Classical All Stars, and the newly-formed Ronnie Scott's Gospel Choir.
Says Fred Nash, Managing Director of Ronnie Scott's: "With Upstairs at Ronnie's, we set ourselves the somewhat audacious goal of creating the greatest small live music venue in the world. In all seriousness, it's about creating a beautiful, intimate space where audiences can experience extraordinary performances, and where artists feel truly valued."
Elsewhere, Ronnie Scott's has also reimagined its backstage spaces with the help of Pirajean Lees; the Greene Rooms is a new members' lounge and artist space, which will be used for pre- and post-show gatherings, intimate events, artist meet-and-greets, and talks and workshops.
Upstairs at Ronnie's and the Greene Rooms are set to open in February 2026. In the meantime, the main Ronnie's Scott's venue remains open.
