One of the most keenly-anticipated exhibitions of the year has gone digital.
Artemisia, the first major UK show dedicated to the vivid and sometimes bloody work of Italian baroque painter Artemisia Gentileschi was originally set to launch at the National Gallery in April 2020. Having been pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic, it eventually opened in October for just a few short weeks before a fresh batch of restrictions compelled London's museum and galleries to once again shut their doors.
Now, though, the gallery is giving art aficionados the chance to discover this all-to-often-overlooked artist at home. Join curator Letizia Treves as she explores the exhibition in its entirety in a 30 minute film, available on the National Gallery's website.
While nothing can compare to seeing Gentileschi's bold brushwork in the flesh, for a measly £8, it's a thrifty alternative for anyone who baulked at the exhibition's £20 price tag. What's more, National Gallery members get to see it for free.
