The V&A's latest and largest outpost is set to open in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
It's been a long time coming, but the V&A's new eastern venue now has an opening date. The distinctive building will open its doors from 18 April 2026.
The V&A East Museum, as it's officially titled, will do lots of things, but its essence lies in multiculturalism. Two free and permanent 'Why we make' galleries will offer up examples of creativity "from a range of countries, cultures and times". Taken together, the hundreds of exhibits will apparently show "creativity’s power to bring change".
The venue will also host temporary exhibitions. First up is The Music is Black: A British Story, which includes "Joan Armatrading’s childhood guitar, fashion worn by Little Simz and newly acquired photographs by Jennie Baptiste, Dennis Morris, Eddie Otchere and Sam White".
If you're thinking: "Didn't the V&A already open in the Olympic Park," then you're quite right. The organisation has set up two new venues in the area. The first, the V&A East Storehouse is an impressive and ever-changing showcase for the depth of the collection (plus the David Bowie Museum). The new V&A East Museum will offer a more traditional museum vibe. We'll be back in April to review the collection in more detail.
V&A East Museum opens 18 April 2026 on the East Bank of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
