Chevrons! Sunbursts! Cocktails! Art deco is, for many, the last word in style. And when it comes to deco architecture, London is the cat's pyjamas.
Prove it! we hear you cry. Well OK then. Using our own art deco nous — plus some great source material from Art Deco Britain: Buildings of the Interwar Years and A Guide to Modernism in Metro-Land, we've put together this map of art deco London (for the purists among you, note there are some overlapping touches of modernism in here too) — featuring hotels, tube stations, garages, stadiums, houses, car showrooms — you name it.
Of course we haven't been able to include every last vestige of deco panache — there's just too much of the stuff. But which are the biggies that we've missed? Let us know by emailing [email protected], and we'll consider adding to our next updated version.
