London Reacts To Being Snubbed By Donald Trump

London woke this morning to the news that US President Donald Trump won't be gracing us with his presence anytime soon, blaming it on the "bad deal" that Obama (wrong) struck up to sell the former embassy (wrong again).

Although a date hadn't been announced, it was thought that a visit was imminent to coincide with the opening of the new U.S. Embassy in Nine Elms. London reacted to the cancellation brilliantly.

Who are you calling an "off location"?

While there was joy that The Orange One won't be inflicting himself on the capital anytime soon, and disappointment that those protest placards won't be needed for a while, the bit that riled Londoners most was Trump's description of Nine Elms as an "off location". Hey, Trump, saaarf Landan's like a little sister to most Londoners — we can diss it as much as we like, but far be it from an outsider to say one wrong thing about it.

The Nine Elms district Twitter account has yet to react, but Love Battersea was quick to set the president straight and offering to "show [him] its delights" if he ever visits, and other locals posted pictures to prove the area's credetials as an "on location".

#ICancelledMyTripToLondon

Twitter did its thing in the best way possible, trolling POTUS with the hashtag #ICancelledMyTripToLondon. Here are a few of our favourites:

Madame Tussauds, never slow to latch onto a PR opportunity, sent their waxy Donald down to Nine Elms to pose in front of the new US Embassy that the real Trump is refusing to visit. Workman finishing up before the big opening posed with him.

London's politicians have their say

After Trump slated London Mayor Sadiq Khan's reactions to the London Bridge terror attacks in June, it's no surprise that Khan took the opportunity to reiterate the Trump "is not welcome here".

Then there was Boris Johnson, who reacted in the most Boris Johnson way possible, referring to Trump's critics as "puffed up pompous popinjays". A quick reminder that this is the man who, in December 2015, claimed that "The only reason I wouldn't visit some parts of New York is the real risk of meeting Donald Trump." How times change.
