HP Sauce On Oysters? It's A Thing In London Now - But Not For Long

Would you put HP Sauce on your oyster?

My oyster tastes funny... That might be because it's got HP Sauce on it. It's the latest food trend — or at least attempted food trend — from the iconic brown sauce makers/well-known oyster pedlars, Wright Brothers.

Hogwash! Yes indeed. Hogwash is the name of the rice vinegar/shallot blend you spoon onto your oyster, if you're not the Tabasco/lemon juice type. In this case, the hogwash has a touch of HP Sauce swirled in.

Ah right, so it's not just being dolloped onto the bivalves like they a bacon sandwich? Nope, although surely they'll have some spare bottles of HP Sauce laying around the restaurant, so if you're in the mood, knock yourself out.

Where and when can I enjoy/avoid this delicacy/abomination? The three London branches of Wright Brothers (Battersea, Borough, South Kensington) will be selling HP hogwash oysters for two months, from 5 September. They cost £1 a pop.

Oysters and HP Sauce
From early Sept to Nov, you can have an HP oyster for a quid a pop.

Does it stop at oysters? The menu will also feature an HP Sauce haddock scotch egg, which sounds rather delicious actually.

And for dessert? There was HP Sauce sticky toffee pudding at the press launch, but this won't be rolling out to the public, sadly.

By the way, why is Ben Ben on every bottle of HP Sauce? Funny you ask, because we wrote an article about that.
