A GBBO-Style Baking Experience Opens In Hackney This Month

90 minutes to bake a cake. In a tent. Competing against 11 others. Sound familiar?

No, it's not a certain Chanel 4 TV show, but The Big London Bake, a hands-on baking experience, which opens a new venue in east London, opposite Haggerston station, this February.

At The Big London Bake, up to 12 bakers (or pairs of bakers) go head-to-head to create an impressive treat, such as an ombre layer cake, in 90 minutes. There's a new bake theme each month, all ingredients and instructions are provided, and a professional patisserie chef is on hand to help out if things aren't going to plan.

It's not a new concept: The Big London Bake - South has been running in Tooting for a few years now, and there's another venue in Birmingham. And while you may be expecting a certain blue-eyed celebrity chef to pop up at any moment, The Big London Bake is at pains to point out that is has no affiliation with the Great British Bake Off.

The new Haggerston venue has a cake-themed bar, open to both bakers and the general public (cocktails include the BakewellTini), with an outdoor garden and terrace area, as well as a separate filming studio open to corporate groups and larger parties, and the all-important 12-station baking tent.

On your marks, get set, BAAAAKE!

The Big London Bake - East, Railway Arch 323, Under The Bridge, Lee Street, Haggerston, E8 4ED. Tickets start from £42.40 per person, opens 24 February 2022.
