The Scarsdale Tavern is a winning pub in more ways than one: on our recent visit, the bloke next to us had just won £500 on the Grand National.
But anyone who visits this comely Fuller's boozer — secreted down a chocolate box residential street, moments from the Design Museum — has hit the jackpot.
The Scarsdale Tavern is everything a traditional London boozer should be; dripping with flower baskets, gin palace-style frosted glass, gilded mirrors and paintings (including one of a dashing-looking Napoleon), roaring fireplace, cask beers on tap, Sunday roasts shuttled out of the kitchen.
Apparently, this was a sanctuary of the late Lady Diana — and you can see why; it's a cosy bolthole, ideal for getting away from it all over a glass of malbec. The vibe's a little posh (check out the neighbours' houses), but the locals seem chattier than your average pub in central.
You may also make a new friend in one of the many pooches who wind up in here after walkies in Holland Park.
