A free sculpture park featuring 40 different artworks is opening on a former golf course in south-east London.
Winter Sculpture Park, which claims to be London's largest sculpture park, takes over the former Thamesmead Golf Course for eight weeks this spring, turning the disused land into an open-air art gallery. 34 artists have created pieces in a variety of mediums, including Claye Bowler, whose work can be seen at Yorkshire Sculpture Park, and Ellie Harrison, who has exhibited at the Venice Biennale.
Highlights to look out for include Alegria Repila Smith's memorial to women who have become victims of male violence, Marcus Orlandi's fabric banners inspired by the hyperbole of British tabloid headlines, and Prayer Room, an artwork which doubles up as a functional, multi-faith prayer space
The golf course closed to the public over a decade ago, and this is the fourth time the sculpture park has been held, though the previous incarnations all took over disused farmland in Bexley.
Winter Sculpture Park is at the former Thamesmead Golf Course, Fairway Drive, SE28 8QS. Open 2 March-26 April 2025 (closed weekends 15-16 March and 5-6 April). Entry is free, but book tickets here. It takes place on unpaved and uneven ground so wear appropriate footwear, and wrap up warm. There's also a special opening party on Saturday 1 March.
