What runs 9km between Greenwich and Waterloo, and is very, very quiet? That'll be London's brand new 'Quietway' — a continuous sign-posted route, now open to pedestrians and cyclists.
Transport for London's (TfL) Quietway 1 passes through four London boroughs (Lambeth, Southwark, Lewisham and Greenwich) and has more than 2km of traffic-free paths for cyclists, as well as better pedestrian facilities throughout (such as new or improved crossing facilities and wider footways).
Also among improvements is a new 750m pedestrian and cycle link connecting South Bermondsey station and the Surrey Canal Road path over unused Network Rail land.
Six more Quietways are opening soon, with Quietway 2 running from Bloomsbury to Walthamstow, set to open later in 2016. Check out the map at the top of the page, and the TfL website.
