Ever seen someone tickling the ivories on those public pianos and St Pancras station, and wished you could do the same? With a free piano lesson, maybe you can.

Every day next week, the public can take a free piano lesson — on a piano donated and signed by Sir Elton John, no less. Barbara De Biasi, founder of Fireworks Music School, will teach the lessons.

While it may seem cruel to inflict the sounds of novice pianists on the ears of the train-catching public, the aim of the lessons is to raise awareness of funding cuts to the arts sector.

In 2010, around 50% of children were taking some sort of music lessons. Today, it's estimated that number is round 30%. In the same period, Arts Council England funding was cut by 36%.

The free 15 minute lessons take place 23-27 May, between 11am-noon. Sign up for your free slot here.
