If you like cats, you probably already know about Streetcat Bob, one of the dudest dude cats around. The ginger furball turned up in the life of busker and Big Issue seller James Bowen and they became a regular and inseparable sight around Angel.
Locally renowned since 2007 for being the cat that purrches on the shoulders of Bowen while he sold the magazine near the tube station, Bob's since found wider fame, including a best-selling book, which is being turned into a film.
(Indeed, Londonist was once in a pub on Essex Road before the duo's book, A Streetcat Named Bob, was released and they got beyond-Islington famous. Admittedly we'd had a few shandies, but had to double take to make sure we weren't imagining the cat around the shoulders of the man at the bar, and later that the mog really was taking up a bar stool of his own volition.)
There's an opportunity to see Bob and hear James talking to ITN's Alastair Stewart at the Tabernacle in Notting Hill on 26 May. Yes, that's a long way in advance, but don't underestimate how much people love this cat.
Tickets are £30 and the event is in aid of Ebony Horse Club in Brixton, which uses horses to improve the skills, well-being and aspirations of young people in the area.
