Roman London was abandoned 1,600 years ago, but many fragments remain, hidden in basements and back streets. One little-known example is now open most weekends for the public to visit.
The Museum of London has started doing tours of a Roman house and baths buried beneath a splendidly drab office building near Billingsgate. The remains were previously only accessible a couple of times a year, but can now be visited by appointment on a Saturday or Sunday.
Book your place via the Museum of London website. Guided tours last 45 minutes and cost £8.
