Things to do today:

PANCAKE RACING: As pancake races go, this one is serious business. The Parliamentary Pancake Race is nearly 20 years old and has Lords, MPs and media teams flinging their pans round Victoria Gardens, in support of disability charity, Rehab. Free to watch, just turn up, 9.45am.

FLY A FIGHTER: Ever wanted to fly a fighter plane? Get up close to the cockpit in these flight simulators at the RAF Museum. Choose from a Red Arrow ride or a trip in a Typhoon. Explore the museum's extensive collection of flight memorabilia, with special exhibitions including The First World War in the Air. Free (£3 for simulators), prebook, 10am-6pm

Try henna this Tuesday

TRY A TATTOO: Get hands on with henna at Vaibhav's Try Henna, experience. She'll fill you in on the history of henna, while drawing bespoke (temporary) designs on your skin. It's a great way to test out a tattoo before going permanent or just to try a new look for a few days. Taste delicious Indian refreshments too. £17/£14, prebook, 5.30pm

KILLER WHALES: What's killing killer whales? Experts from CSIP have completed a 25-year study into the behaviour of these magnificent mammals to find out how strandings happen. Head to ZSL London Zoo for an informative evening with experts discussing the findings. Free, just turn up, 6pm

LIFE DRAWING: Feeling cheeky this Tuesday? If you've ever wanted to have a go at life drawing, get yourself along to Juno's friendly class. It's a relaxing, intimate evening for all art abilities. All art materials are included, so just bring yourself. £14, prebook, 7pm

FENCING FIT: En garde. Get fighting fit at this fencing introduction class in Archway. Using real foils (no plastic stuff here), you'll learn enough sword swishing to pass your Fighting Fit qualification. Not to mention being able to swing some Errol Flynn-style moves. £14, prebook, 7pm

LIARS LEAGUE: The notorious storytellers invite you to an evening of Clean & Dirty Valentines-themed shorts. Their professional actors will read a frisky fiction selection and there's a half-time book quiz too. Head underground at The Phoenix, Leicester Square for a night of naughty and nice. £5, just turn up, 7.30pm

COMEDY: Cariad Lloyd (BBC Three). Phil Wang, David Trent, Rose Matafeo and more are crashing into the Comedy Grotto at the Star of Kings, in aid of UNHCR’s Syria appeal. Donate what you like, just turn up, 7.45pm

Good cause of the day

Great Spitalfields Pancake Race: Grab your team, a form of fancy dress (there's a prize for the best ones) and go racing down Dray Walk in aid of London's Air Ambulance. Flip, flick — or do whatever you do — to the finish line and a free hot pancake. If you'd rather just watch others get battered, cheering crowds are strongly encouraged too. It starts at 12.30pm.
