LAST CHANCE: The Wellcome Collection has filled an entire gallery with brightly coloured mist as part of a new installation by Ann Veronica Janssens. Contemplate the human consciousness or just enjoy the pretty colours. Free, just turn up, until 3 January

RESTORED ALMSHOUSE: At the Geffrye Museum today you can visit a restored Almshouse which offers insight into how London's poor and elderly lived in the 18th century. £4, prebook, 11am-4pm

CHILDREN'S CHRISTMAS STORYTELLING: Take children along to the Barbican for a 30 minute burst of Christmas storytelling and festive songs. Suitable for under fives. Free, just turn up, 4pm

SOMERSET HOUSE OLD PALACES TOUR: On this tour explore the history of the now famous arts and culture venue which was once the home of three Queens, which includes access to the Strand Lane Baths. Once you've got your history fix enjoy the Christmassy things on offer such as ice skating. Free, just turn up (arrive early), tours run every Tuesday at 12.45pm and 2.15pm

LATE NIGHT SHOPPING: In a panic about your Christmas shopping? Pick up some last minute gifts at London Transport Museum's Shop which is in the south east corner of Covent Garden. On arrival you'll receive fuel for your late night shop in the form of a rum or gin based cocktail and mince pie. Free, just turn up, 6pm-8pm

Good cause of the day

Head to The Proud Archivist in Haggerston to hear a talk hosted by indie mag Like The Wind which was featured in our top list of London print magazines. The event features Lizzy Hawker, a 100km World Champion and the event is raising money for those recently affected by an earthquake in Nepal. Expect costumes and a raffle followed by a drink in the pub. £9.19, prebook, 6.30pm
