Disney is set to make another assault on the West End with a musical adaptation of its animated film Aladdin. Following its relentlessly successful The Lion King, which has been playing in London since 1999, the all-singing, all-dancing Arabic-themed extravaganza will open at the Prince Edward Theatre on 15 June 2016.
The cast includes Dean John Wilson, who first made a splash on Britain's Got Talent, as Aladdin, and ex-Sugababe Jade Ewen as Princess Jasmine. Broadway cast member Trevor Dion Nicholas will make his London stage debut as the Genie, a part Robin Williams played in the film. The design team have won a stack of Tonys and the director Casey Nicholaw has form with The Book of Mormon so expect this to be a behemoth.
Tickets went on sale today and can be booked on the Aladdin website. Opening night is 15 June 2016 with previews from 27 May.
