WHITE WATER RAFTING: Feeling adventurous? Lee Valley White Water Rafting Centre reopens for the season on this weekend. Whether you've done it before, or you're a first timer, learn the art of white water rafting on the London 2012 course. Various prices, prebook, from 28 February
SAVE NORTON FOLGATE: There's been much objection to plans to redevelop Norton Folgate in Spitalfields, and the Spitalfields Trust has taken on British Land, the firm which is proposing the redevelopment. There’s an exhibition at Dennis Severs’s House, illustrating the threat to the neighbourhood and an alternative approach to reusing the site. Free, certain dates, until 1 March
CITY FARM: Hackney City Farm is 30 years old, so to mark the occasion the Stepping Out exhibition at Hackney Museum shows some of the farm's highlights. The exhibits have been created with the community, drawing on local peoples' stories and associations with the farm. An interactive map by artist Rebecca Davies has been created with people who live, work or play in the E2 community. Free, just turn up, until 16 May

FASHION FUN: Barking Library is hosting a Fashion Fun Day, open to all ages and featuring a community catwalk show of fashion through the decades and local designers, Ford vintage cars, an upcycling fashion workshop, live music and more. Free, just turn up, 10am-4pm
PERFORMING ARTS: City Academy hosts an open day with free classes in dance, singing, musical theatre and writing at Sadler's Wells. Have a go at ballet, salsa and more. See website for full programme. Free, prebook, 10am-6pm
GEOMETRIC CITY: Head to The Cockpit Theatre for a family show of puppetry which reveals an exciting, mysterious and undiscovered place called Geometric City. £7, prebook, 11.30am
CHINESE NEW YEAR: Rich Mix in Shoreditch celebrates the Year of the Sheep with cultural performances, food and drink, charity stalls and children's craft workshops. Free, just turn up, 12pm-4pm
LGBT HISTORY: In recognition of LGBT History Month, the V&A Museum holds an event to explore alternative queer readings of museum objects. Free, 12.30pm-5pm
TROPICAL TOURS: Take a behind-the-scenes tour of Kew Gardens' tropical nursery, led by a Kew volunteer. See where the tropical plants are propagated and nurtured before they are planted out in the glasshouses. WOMEN OF THE WORLD: Southbank Centre's Women of the World festival kicks off today. Over 300 speakers and performers from around the world will appear at the festival to present concerts, performances, comedy, workshops, talks and debates on hundreds of topics relating to equality for women and girls. AFFORDABLE VINTAGE: Judy's Affordable Vintage Fair heads south of the river, pulling up at Lambeth Town Hall in Brixton. Browse hand-picked stalls packed with affordable vintage fashion, accessories and homewares. £3/£2, just turn up, 10.30am-4.30pm
MASS ASSEMBLY: Artist Sarah Turner is looking for people to take part in her new documentary feature film project Public House in Peckham. Participants meet at The Ivy House before emerging from the building onto the streets and walking together as a group for half a mile to Peckham Rye common, where a poetry reading and choreographed dance will take place.
