London Pubs That Serve Gluten-Free Beer
Gluten-free beer on tap at BrewDog

Welcome to our series on gluten-free eating and drinking in London, highlighting London’s best gluten-free restaurants, bars, pubs and food shops. It’s thought that 1 in 100 people in the UK have coeliac disease. Given London has well over eight million inhabitants, a bit of basic maths suggests around 80,000 people in the city fall into this category. Add on all those people who have other gluten allergies and intolerances, and that’s a lot of demand for gluten-free food and drink — yet it’s not as prevalent as it should be.

Gluten-free beer is readily available online, with numerous breweries crafting beers that make the grade — yet still it’s pretty bloody tricky to find in a pub. We’ve scoured the internet, crawled pubs, spoken to brewers and shouted about our plight in order to put together this handy guide to where to find beer sans gluten in London.

Note, we've marked with a ★ the pubs where there's a choice of two or more beers.

On tap

For beer-loving coeliacs, finding gluten-free beer on tap must feel a lot like stumbling across the Holy Grail. And as far as we can tell, London’s BrewDog bars in Camden, Shepherd’s Bush and Shoreditch are the only places you can find it. The brewer’s Vagabond pale ale is on tap more often than not, and if not, should be by bottle.

Useful piece - although the Sultan's in Colliers Wood, not Wimbledon.

And this is before i start on with my campaign to rebrand Wimbledon as West Colliers Wood...

This is such a useful article given the day-to-day challenges of those living gluten free. Another useful resource is The Gluten Free Centre online which is trying to bring together many services, offers, products across the UK in one useful space. Do check it out if that's of interest.

GF Gathering

Nice work Ben!!!! Great to have a list to share with people!

The Flying Pig in East Dulwich has a vast and frequently changing range of bottled beers, usually including at least one or two gluten-free options. http://www.theflyingpiglondon....

Just to add, The King and Queen in Fitzrovia has some bottled gluten free offerings to choose from all the time. Usually Green's but I believe they sometimes have Crop Circle on too.

The Dovetail in St, John's Square (Clerkenwell) usually has Mongozo Pilsner

not pubs but let's give credit to Pizza Express and GBK that both serve gluten free bottle beer! :)

You don't list my new favourite on here!! Hops Burns and Black, they are a new beer shop and tasting room in Peckham. Not only do they have a nice range of 5 gluten free beers on the shelves amongst the incredible selection of beers they sell but you can sit at the bar and drink them there and then! They said they are looking to stock more GF ones in the future. I live in west London but have made the trip south to brixton a few times recently and as it was such an easy trip on the 37 bus we went to check it out. From the lovely couple who own and run the place, to the wall of chilli sauce, chilli chocolate and chilli pork scratchings, to the interesting collection of hand selected wines (for those with friends or partners who don't partake in the ale) this place is where I would happily wile away many hours sipping on a brew as they also play an interesting collection of vinyl :)

I think all the Sam Smith's pubs do as well.

Hi Ben, a great article and fantastic to see so many options for coeliac concious individuals. All Taylor Walker venues sell bottled gluten-free beer:

Taylor Walker 1730 Special Pale Ale. Hope that helps and we can provide the certification too if that'd help!

Cheers, Chris @TheFunctionRoomUK

Sevilla Mia on Hanway Street (oxford street/tottenham ct rd) also have a bottled gluten free beer.

Sadly Brewdog don't currently stock GF beer. It was a pilot to see if it sold according to the barman. He did say they are getting it back soon but couldn't say when

The Salusbury Arms in Queens Park has Mongozo!

The Florist on Globe Road, Bethnal green, serves gf pizza and has Green's in bottles. This list is heartening to see, but that Celia stuff is nasty

The 10 Cases does not have gluten free beer as mentioned.

Siobhán Norton

The Porterhouse in Covent Garden has a few different ones.

another one - the Well and Bucket on Bethnal Green Road has gluten free beer ON DRAUGHT... Mikkeller "I wish" IPA, it's strong, hoppy, ruby beer.

Tom Harrison

Hi Ben,

We came across your post online and thought we'd let you know that we'll be stocking what we think might be London's only gluten free cask beer, tapped to go on this weekend.

St Peter's Brewery have casked their G-Free for us and we'll also soon be stocking it in bottles.
