Keep The Kids Busy At National Gallery This Summer

Summer holidays have officially started and we can imagine worried parents trying to keep their beloved little ones busy. Alongside the kid-centred fun that's happening in town this summer, the National Gallery presents hands-on-art creative workshops for aspiring little artists.

Connected to its current exhibition Making Colour, the National Gallery has organised a series of interactive workshops and family-friendly activities throughout August and September. The activities focus on the process of making colours and on developing the participants' artistic skills.

The Holiday Workshops start on Monday 11 August and are for children aged 7-12 and their families. Join portrait painter Robin-Lee Hall, who turns your little one into an artist's apprentice, by teaching the techniques of tempera painting. Make your own art: discover how to obtain colour from nature and see demonstrations of how to prepare pigments and produce paint manually. Tickets for the workshops are priced £16 for one adult and one child, the workshop repeat on various dates and times throughout August.

Family Sundays are free drop-in creative sessions for children and their families. For children aged 5-11, these hands-on-art workshops and drawing classes are an ideal way to spend a Sunday inside a museum without getting bored. The next session will be on Sunday 24 August, followed by weekly ones happening in September. Admission is free but these events are on a first-come first-served basis, so we suggest you get there early.
