BLOOD: Today’s opportunities to donate blood are at The City Temple in Holborn Viaduct, The Hop Exchange in Southwark Street, Holy Trinity Church Hall in Penge, Selhurst Park Stadium in Thornton Heath and Ilford Town Hall. See site for terms and conditions

ART: The National Portrait Gallery dedicates an entire exhibition to Virginia Woolf, one of the most influential writers of the 20th century. See portraits and rare archival material like letters and diaries that explore her life and achievements. £7/£6.50, prebook, until 26 October

FILM FESTIVAL: The London Indian Film Festival kicks off today and promises a rich and engaging programme, from independent cinema to glossy Disney productions. The festival takes place in different venues: discover more than Bollywood. Check website for full programme, until 17 July   

STREATHAM: Streatham Festival starts today, bringing arts and creativity along Streatham High Road, which claims to be the longest street in Europe. Most of the events are free and don't need booking, but we suggest you check the festival's events programme to avoid disappointment. Until 13 July

GUIDED WALK: Follow the route of the river Walbrook, which ran through the ancient City, and discover the forgotten history of the area. The meeting point is outside Moorgate Tube Station, on the East side by Britannic House. £10/£7.50, prebook, 6.30pm

CHOCOLATE TASTING: Discover everything you need to know about the sweet stuff on a tasting experience tutored by chocolatier Paul A Young, taking place at the Southbank Centre. From cocoa beans to ready-to-eat products, secrest will be revealed. £59+bf, prebook, 6.30pm

MODERN BRITAIN: 37 Things You Need To Know About Modern Britain is a talk about modern times, Generation Y and the New Quarter Life Crisis. The event takes place at the House of St Barnabas in Tottenham Court Road and is followed by music. £10+bf, prebook, 7pm

GIG: Cecil Sharp House, the English Folk Dance and Song Society in Regent's Park, hosts Camden Voices choir performing live. Expect sun-drenched harmonies and vibrant arrangements from the worlds of soul, jazz and folk. £11/£9+bf, prebook, 7pm

ARCHITECTURE TALK: Architecture on Film takes place tonight at Barbican Cinema 1. There will be film screenings and a Q&A session about architecture in South America and India. £11.50/£10.50, prebook, 7pm   

PUB QUIZ: Join a pub quiz about cult TV and cinema at the Devereux pub in Temple — they promise there won't be any football questions. Buzzer Quiz Night is free but you'd better book a table to enjoy the challenge. Free, prebook by email, 7pm   

RIVER THAMES: The historical Mayflower pub in Rotherhithe hosts Sweet Thames, Run Softly — a series of film screenings all focused on the River Thames. The project aims to tour London's river pubs and spread interest in the river's history. Free, just turn up, 7.30pm

COMEDY: The Future Sellouts comedy lab is on stage at the Hercules Pillars pub in Holborn. On stage: Twayna Mayne, Alfie Brown, Sasha Ellen, Marlon Davis and Ivo Graham — presenting their Edinburgh preview. £7/£5, prebook, 8pm
