BLOOD: Today’s opportunities to donate blood are at Doubletree Hilton Hotel at the Tower Of London, Parish Church Of St Paul in Winchmore Hill and United Reformed Church in Enfield. See site for terms and conditions

ART: The Gallery at Forge presents the debut exhibition of fashion designer, musician and all-round auteur Danny Passarella. Expect sci-fi-themed artworks and pieces of original photography. Free, just turn up, until 3 August

SUMMER FESTIVAL: Edmonton Summer Festival kicks off today and takes place in Pymmes Park, close to Silver Street train station. There will be live music and outdoor theatre, check website for full programme. Free, just turn up, until 27 July

ZOOLOGY TALK: The UCL's Grant Museum hosts a PhD student who talks about a single object from its collection. Today it's the turn of Luca Marazzi, who discusses the diversity of life in one of Africa’s largest wetlands, the Okavango Delta. Free, just turn up, 1pm

ZEPPELIN WALK: Follow the path of destruction inflicted in 1915 by a German Imperial Navy Zeppelin from Holborn to Liverpool Street station, which was the first effective air raid on London. Meeting outside Holborn tube station. £10/£8, prebook, 1.15pm

MUSIC IN A CHURCH: Soak up the soulful voice of Melissa James, who performs at St John's Church in Fulham Broadway. £9+bf, prebook, 7pm

COMEDY: Kinetic Comedy group is on stage at The Library in Islington. Expect an evening of belly laughs from these emerging multicultural stand-ups. £10, prebook, from 7pm

GIG: The Les Clöchards perform live at the Barfly in Camden. This Corsican rock 'n' roll band id energetic to say the least. £12+bf, prebook, 7pm

HUMAN HISTORY: Britain and Beyond: One Million Years of the Human History is a one-off event taking place at the Attenborough Studio, part of the Natural History Museum. Listen to experts and scholars talking about the differences and similarities of ancient Britain inhabitants compared to the rest of the world, then visit the dedicated exhibition afterwards. £30/£20, prebook, 7pm

HITCHCOCK: Enjoy a screening of 1929 Hitchcock's silent film Blackmail at Walthamstow Assembly Hall. The screening is accompanied by the Forest Philharmonic playing live and introduced by Neil Brand. £12/£8.50, prebook, 7.30pm

OUTDOOR THEATRE: Glass Mountain is an open air fairy tale production running at St George's Gardens in King's Cross until 30 July. The show combines music, puppetry and storytelling theatre to re-imagine material from some of our oldest tales. £10/£8, prebook, 7.30pm

MUSIC IN THE DARK: French-Nicaraguan acoustic guitar duo JP & Xochitl are on stage tonight at the Blackhorse Lane Studios. Expect a fusion of Arabic, Spanish and gypsy music — some of which is played with the lights turned off. £9/£7, prebook, 8pm

ROUTEMASTER: Routemaster buses will no longer run on route 9 (OK, route 9H if we're being picky) from this evening, so indulge in a spot of nostalgia and hop on between Kensington High Street and Trafalgar Square.

Good Cause of the Day

On Saturday 2 August head to St George's Church and Centre in Tufnell Park for an evening of dancing and fundraising. Post-Dance Spuds for North Korea includes a dance class lead and a gathering afterwards, in order to raise awareness of, and fundraise for, the horrific conditions suffered by people held in political prison camps in North Korea. There will be baked potatoes and cake available in exchange for donations to Amnesty International, which supports the cause. £18-£11, just turn up, 7pm
