Wandsworth Arts Festival Takes Over The Whole Borough

Toast Temple, devised by The Brick Box.

The whole borough of Wandsworth becomes a festival venue next month, with the Wandsworth Arts Festival + Fringe.

Enjoy free art and performances, like fire showers at Roehampton Library Green on 17 May or a travelling Toast Temple (we're really not making that up). There's family friendly dance and physical theatre, plays, comedy and poetry, music, storytelling and Dad dancing. There's also plenty to keep the craft-minded entertained, like design and make workshops at an African tea party, a free weaving experience and a chance to mend or alter that item of clothing that's never been quite right.

It's such an excellently mixed bag that we've resorted to picking a few more events that caught our eye. Book a tour of the first distillery to make whisky in London for 103 years (4 May); 3D games involving apples on Tooting Bec Common, described as lucky dip-meets-Crystal Maze (5 May); a dance and visual art performance best watched from up in a tower block (9-10 May); and an outdoor sitting room where you can eat biscuits as performances happen around you (17 May).

The festival runs 2-18 May at venues all over Wandsworth and many of the events are free. You should probably book in advance for the more popular events, or those with limited availability (like that distillery tour. You can book tours at other times, but during the festival it's £5 cheaper). For the majority, however, just turn up and enjoy. Discover the full programme on the Wandsworth Arts Festival + Fringe website.
