Tom Du Croz from LondonGigGuide selects his recommended small and medium-sized gigs around town this week.

Monday 31 March

Curtis Eller’s American Circus, The Old Queens Head, Essex Road

Having spent 10 years working in New York, Curtis Eller opted for the quiet rural life of North Carolina. His music can bend time meaning that Elvis Presley and Richard Nixon can chat to Abraham Lincoln and Buster Keaton. Event Details

Tuesday 1 April

Southern, The Social, Oxford Circus

Thom and Lucy Southern are a sibling duo originally from Belfast but crafting their gruff, foot stomping, infectious blues rock in sunny Liverpool. Their debut EP, World Don’t Shine, is out now. Event Details

Wednesday 2 April

Alex Butler and The Opals, The Troubadour, Earl's Court

Standing six foot six in his Cuban heels, Alex Butler is hard to miss. He nearly joined the circus as a tightrope walker (his grandmother was an acrobat) but opted for music instead. Event Details

Thursday 3 April

Nate Maingard, Spiritual Caipirinha Bar, Camden

Nate is a thinker. Originally from Cape Town, his lyrics tell of a man questioning and attempting to understand the world he finds himself in. Event Details

King Size Slim, Blue Kitchen, Camden

We can't get enough of Toby Barelli! His music climbs into your head and refuses to budge. See him play his thumping roots set at this brilliant blues venue. Event Details

Friday 4 April

Freds House, The Finsbury, Manor House

This is a fantastic indie/folk band from Cambridge. Over years of hard writing and gigging their sound has grown and matured. The results are plain to hear in their beautiful debut album Bonnie and Clyde, which is out on 21 April. Event Details

Saturday 5 April

Sons and Lovers & Racing Glaciers, The Dalston Victoria

This week's Double Bill. A night featuring some of London's hottest new indie bands. And it's a free gig, too. Sons and Lovers : they have just finished filming the music video for this track. Racing Glaciers: just launched their new EP Ahead Of You Forever. Event Details

Sunday 6 April

Happyness, Nottinghill Arts Club

This is a three-piece from south London. They released their latest EP in January, which was recorded in their loft. Dreamy, chilled, thoughtful music. Event Details
