Tom Du Croz from LondonGigGuide selects ten recommended gigs around town this week.
Monday 2 December
Flyte, Birthdays, Dalston
https://soundcloud.com/flyte/over-and-out
Their EP launch was back in September and things seem to be going very well for these guys. They just completed a short tour that included playing at the Shepard's Bush Empire to support Ms Mr. They are also playing the smaller but infinitely more personable Birthdays instead. Event Details
Mohit, The Macbeth, Hoxton
https://soundcloud.com/mohit/blue-out
Recently collaborated with Frankobollo on a great track, which you can find here. Originally from Bognor Regis these two guys create great tunes. Event Details
The Tigers's Bride, Servant Jazz Quarters, Dalston
https://soundcloud.com/the-tigers-bride/splinters-of-gold
Polly Wright is a very gifted singer-songwriter. She incorporates a range of instruments into her live sets including organs, autoharps and the musical saw. Event Details
Tuesday 3 December
The Epstein, Old Queens Head, Islington
https://soundcloud.com/the-epstein/calling-out-your-name-single
This night is organised by Green Note who specialise in all things folk. The band's name is definitely 'The Epstein' not just 'Epstein', as I called them in the show — sorry guys. Event Details
The Wild Things, Buffalo Bar, Highbury and Islington
https://soundcloud.com/thewildthingsuk/re-entry
A three-piece band from west London, The Wild Things are Syd, Cam and Rob. But I don't know which of these is in the bunny suit. Event Details
Wednesday 4 December
Escort, Queen of Hoxton
https://soundcloud.com/escort-records/cabaret
Escort are apparently "Brooklyn's finest disco orchestra". I don't know any other disco orchestras so I will have to take their word for it. I do know they sound amazing and their vocalist Adeline Michèle has a voice to make grown men dribble. Event Details
Larry and his Flask, The Borderline, Soho
https://soundcloud.com/mr-monard-1/larry-and-his-flask-call-it
Take a break from indie and see this joyful ska, swing, bluegrass mash up. Go! It definitely won't be dull. Event Details
Thursday 5 December
Katey Brooks, The Garage, Highbury and Islington
https://soundcloud.com/kateybrooks/i-fought-lovers
Katey Brooks grew up in communes in both the UK and the US, and you can hear those camp-fire roots. But her musical style has developed and broadened, and when it is combined with her beautiful voice — well — it's pretty amazing. Event Details
Will and The People, The Secret Garden, Battersea
These guys are more of a collective than a band. They have played Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party and Isle of Wight Festival, but also a bathtub in Reading and a Fiat 500 in Rome. Event Details
Saturday 7 December
Peter And The Harmonics & The White Bicycles, Road Trip Bar, Old Street
https://soundcloud.com/ruby-studios-bristol/peter-and-the-harmonics-make
https://soundcloud.com/thewhitebicycles/the-white-bicycles-elegy
This week's double bill. Two great bands playing the same venue on the same night. Peter and the Harmonics brought out their debut EP last year, called 'Over Me'. They're based in Bristol. Event Details
Sunday 8 December
Post Louis, Sebright Arms, Hackney
https://soundcloud.com/postlouis/this-could-be-a-bridge
Their EP 'This Could Be A Bridge' came out on 12 November. They formed earlier this year and played their first show at Birthdays in May. I'm very excited to see what they do next. Event Details
